♦   A sensible plan to reform immigration laws.

Most Americans don’t realize that the deportation of illegal farm workers would throw America into a catastrophic depression from which America might never recover. To find out how and why this is true, keep reading. But first, please note that:

When the new bill arrives on the floor of the Congress, there will be many sophisticated terms in legalese, a language that few people speak. This proposal is written so that the average teenager can understand it.

Let’s separate the wheat from the chaff.

The honest, hard working men and women, primarily from Mexico, will be allowed to stay; the drug runners and gangsters have to go, and stay gone. How can this be accomplished and why must this be accomplished?

A blanket immigration bill would be ridiculous and unenforceable, because each region of the United States has different economic and social layers. The situation in San Diego is much different from the situation in Twin Falls. So, an omnibus bill must be created. (That means a bill with varied chapters.)

A bilateral ‘agriculture deferment’ must be required when new immigration laws are written.

1.   The immigrant employee bearing a letter of employment from a bona fide agri-business cannot be deported or held in custody, unless that person has been charged with a crime.

2.   The employer cannot be prosecuted for hiring a worker without a work visa.

3.   It will be the responsibility of city, county, and state authorities to verify that the letters of employment are bona fide, and the federal immigration authorities need not interfere unless there is probable cause to suspect that any city, county, or state is failing to verify that letters of employment are genuine and that the issuers are bona fide business entities.

4.   Severe fines will be levied upon those who issue fraudulent letters of employment.

5.   No illegal alien will be allowed to own and operate his/her own business. Any person who knowingly hires an illegal immigrant as a private contractor or subcontractor will receive mandatory fines large enough to negate the savings made by hiring a ‘gypo’ illegal contractor. Any illegal immigrant who is a contractor or subcontractor will be stripped of all possessions, fingerprinted, deported immediately, and will never be issued a work visa.

What this will do:

This will separate the working people from the drug runners and gangsters.

The ‘K.I.S.S.’ principle.

Let’s Keep It Simple Sweetheart.

By exempting farm workers from deportation and getting rid of illegal gypo contractors, authorities will be empowered and enabled to crack down on drug runners and gangsters. Illegal immigrants will be allowed to work for wages only, and will not be allowed undercut prices to bona fide contractors. Neither will an illegal contractor or other type of contractor be able to use his/her business as a front for running or distributing drugs.

. The Trump Card.

This is a good way to get started. Obviously, immigration laws must change. Still, the agriculture economy must be protected from a radical federal mandate.

A law or resolution similar to this proposal CAN be passed by the Idaho State Legislature quickly and expediently; this while a cumbersome and ponderous federal government argues, and endlessly debates over what should be done about illegal immigration.

Why not let Idaho voters take the lead?

If all the illegal immigrants from Mexico packed up and went home today, a half a million cows in our district would go to slaughter and topple the AG markets. Unless those cows are milked twice a day, they get mastitis and go to slaughter. A scenario like that one would be catastrophic. We’d have to call out the National Guard and the Army Reserve and put them to work, milking cows. (Smile.)

Conclusion: Illegal immigrant farm workers aren’t going anywhere. They are staying right here, so you might as well face reality and be pragmatic in your approach to dealing with illegal immigration.
